This was my first flat panel and after doing my research, I fully expected to purchase a Samsung or Panasonic. But walk into a store that has several brands/models on display and try turning away from this picture. It blows the others away. When I saw the price I was sold, but only because the picture quality was so impressive; the salesman said it has been his biggest seller lately and he felt that LG "hit it out of the park" with this model. LG 42PJ350 42-Inch 720p Plamsa HDTV

Just got the LG 42PJ350 plasma, so I haven't had it very long--this won't be that kind of review. This is a great tv! It's our first flat screen hdtv. The difference between this and my old SONY Trinitron CRT is like night and day. The contrast is amazing, the colors are vibrant, off-angle viewing is flawless, and there are more than enough adjustments that you can make. The sound is good all by itself in a medium-sized room. And the screen is huge! I can't believe how wonderful it is to watch anything on this tv!

Some technical junk: the digital tuner is excellent--it pulls in lots of channels, way more than the old converter box the gummint bought us. HD channels look fantastic. 720p is plenty good--I don't think you need 1080p, unless you have source material that can take advantage of it--and even then you probably won't be able to tell the difference. Most of what we watch is broadcast tv and old-fashioned dvd's, so we don't have much need of more pixels. If that sounds like you, then get a 720p plasma and save yourself $500+. Oh, yeah, and the remote control is very easy to use--big buttons where it matters and very intuitive.

The setup is easy--it shouldn't take anyone more than 15 minutes. But we didn't even have to do that since Amazon's shipping partner took care of all that for us. Way to go, Amazon! and CEVA shipping too!Buy LG 42PJ350 42 Inch 720p Plasma HDTV Lowest Price, Order Now! [Click Here!]

Where To Buy LG 42LH90

Shop For LG 42LH90 42-Inch 1080p 240Hz LED Backlit LCD HDTV, Glossy Black/Infused Blue

This TV has an amazingly beautiful picture, with deep darks and bright colors, and good saturation even in soft, light colors that might get washed out on other TVs. Scenic panoramas are so realistic! One reviewer said they thought the picture was too dark overall, but I can't understand why, unless it's being watched in a very bright room. My experience is that we had to turn the LED backlight down a lot to make it dim enough and save our retinas. We're very impressed with the picture quality and the sound is even impressive for a TV, but we still hooked it up to the stereo system, because of course that's better. But we were impressed with the audio quality as far as TV speakers go.

There was an issue with 1 of the 4 HDMI ports not working, however LG said for any TV over 30", they will send a technician to your home to repair any issue not caused by customer abuse, and this would be covered, but since we only really need 2 inputs, it's a tolerable defect. One other small complaint is that the HDMI ports have a loose fit, however, in three weeks, we only had to tighten once and they're holding steady. The ports are just around behind the screen, easily accessible without going behind the TV, so it's no problem. These issues are minor, and I would still choose this TV over others for it's great picture quality! I'm very happy we bought it, and at such a great price. And for LG's fabulous customer support, 5 stars.

The seller was great (Video & Audio Center) and shipped it same day for free. It arrived in just a couple days.Buy LG 42LH90 Lowest Price, Order Now! [Click Here!]

Samsung PN42C450 Best Buy

Samsung PN42C450 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV (Black)

I picked this up on sale as a new TV for my bedroom. I took a look at the differences between this and an equal tech LCD, and besides very slight advantages the LCD held (eg - white letters on a black background) this plasma TV blew it out of the water. I was on edge if I made the right decision...until I got this home and hooked it up!

VS. the comparable tech LCD:
Truer flesh tone/skin color
Greens/blues (nature shows) blow away LCD depth
Blacks show comparably deep, if not deeper

I had read a ton of reviews on this TV before I made the purchase, just because I couldn't believe that this great of a TV could come out of this low of a price! Staring at all of the TVs on the local Best Buy's TV wall gave me second thoughts. Compared to all the latest and greatest 55" LED's, this TV doesn't seem to stand out, but it has an amazing picture and for the price...it's a must have.

True, the sound doesn't really deserve 5 stars, but if you already have a home entertainment system it won't matter; if you don't, the switch between voice and action scenes will be a bit annoying for late night viewing.

If you're hesitant to pick this up, don't be! Great quality, amazing picture, and thinking you can't get a good TV for $540 is a lie - this TV proves it!Buy Samsung PN42C450 Best Buy Lowest Price, Order Now! [Click Here!]

Cheap LG 42LD450 42-Inch 1080p 60 Hz LCD HDTV

This is my first HDTV purchase and am pleased so far. (Read as I don't know much about this). Setup was simple; the price was right and it has some popular energy-saving features.

The picture was sharp and clear. Multiple preset modes (cinema, game, normal) make setup easy, but there are also custom, fine-tuning adjustments available. It does not appear to have network/internet capability, but I will purchase a Blue-ray DVD player with that feature separately. The unit has an optical audio out so I can use my older receiver for 5.1 sound.

The remote feels cheap, but gets the job done. I imagine one rarely uses the manufacturer's TV remote so LG (and other makers) probably do not spend much on them. I did not notice any backlight seeping out of case which I understand is a problem on some TVs.

For an entry-level buyer, this was a solid purchase. I paid $658 - I thought that was reasonable for a 1080p set in 42". I rated it 4 stars on because I do not have much product knowledge (yet).

This is my second LCD tv, but my first large screen. I just had trouble trying to justify spending over a grand or more on a tv when I have other projects around the house I should be throwing money at. The first one I've had for a couple years, 19" Magnavox I used as a monitor, and Xbox games & Netflix (now its just a monitor).

I also found this for $658.00, which was low enough for my to rationalize the purchase and not feel guilty. I'm very happy with the picture and the number of hookups. You'll be able to run everything through this tv, the only reason I don't have my desktop through it is location. It doesn't have all the latest and greatest web features, but I think it's a quality 1080p HD picture, which is really what I was looking for.

If you're real techy, or visual-phile, then this probably isn't for you, but for the average viewer/user, it's hard to beat the picture for the price.Buy LG 42LD450 Best Buy Lowest Price, Order Now! [Click Here!]

LG 42LD450 42-Inch 1080p 60 Hz LCD HDTV

LG 42LD450 42-Inch 1080p 60 Hz LCD HDTV

Good:
Budget priced 2010 model with BANG FOR BUCK (for 60Hz shoppers), very accurate colors out-of-the-box (AND a deep color tweaking menu), and surprisingly rich/dark blacks - as far as LCDs go

Bad:
60Hz means no 3D (boo!) but this has equal PQ in every other way as the 47LD550 42LD550 (yay!), the desktop stand assembly is far from the most secure stand, only 2 HDMI and 1 Component input (but RGB/VGA input is able to receive video color levels as well as PC color levels)

Bottom Line:
I'm not a T.V. nerd, audio/videophile forum-junkie but I am fairly knowlegable regarding A/V and tech stuff I've had several HDTVs since 2006 and closely compared LCD sets by Samsung, LG, and Sony with Panasonic Viera plasmas for the 2008/2009 model years. The 42LD450 has BETTER PQ to my eyes than the LG model 42LG40 (the 120Hz 2009 model). 2010 > 2009, with 120Hz series' offering little more than the refresh rate and the gimmicky motion-smoothing feature ("TruMotion"). In comparing the 42LD550 and the 42LD450, they both calibrated almost identically (the only difference between the sets being that the 42LD550 has a 120Hz refresh rate).

Sony's KDL-40EX600 and KDL-40EX400 also fell short to this BARGAIN BIN LG SET. Don't take my word for it...actually, DO TAKE MY WORD FOR IT!!! Need a 42" 1080p?? Get the 120/240/480/600Hz model in 2-3 years when 3D technology is CHEAP AND VASTLY IMPROVED. 60Hz is all you need, and this TV will give you picture that would have carried a $1800 price tag in 2008.

If the #1 factor to you is having the best picture quality possible, simply don't go LCD. picture quality is the #1 most important factor to you, then let me advise you that NO LCD set will offer you superior PQ than other technologies.

Buying Panasonic VIERA TC-P42G25

Buying Panasonic VIERA TC-P42G25 42-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV

I bought this plasma from a local electronics store [...]. This is the second flat screen I have purchased in as many days.

I first bought a Samsung LN40C650 LCD but returned it the next day because of a few issues that I couldn't get past. It had very light vertical banding in some spots (It's possible that I just got a bad one on this count), the image washed out when viewing from anywhere other than straight on, and I didn't like the way the tv dealt with motion (whether the auto-motion was turned on or not). Also, the colors didn't seem very natural although it's possible that after adjustment this would have improved.

So I decided to try the Panasonic TC-P42G25, a Plasma tv, which supposedly has none of these issues (but maybe its own inherent issue, read on). I brought it home, unboxed it, attached the stand and hooked everything up. I was able to accomplish this myself but I would recommend getting some help to do this step. The stand does swivel which is a nice feature to have. I turned it on and after a short setup wizard everything was ready to go. I live in Chicago and the tv had no problem finding all the digital channels from my indoor/outdoor antenna which you can see here - [...]

At first this tv looks a bit dim, but this is because by default the tv is set to standard brightness mode which is the least vibrant of the settings. I flipped through some of the other picture modes and THX seems to be bright and accurate, though I decided to leave it in standard mode for the first few days during the plasma "break in" period.

I popped the dvd Ashes of American Flags (concert film, rock band Wilco) into a bluray player that I borrowed from someone. This film has a lot dark areas in the concert scenes which allowed me to check out the black levels. The tv automatically recognized that I was playing something and switched the source to receive video from the bluray player.

If I had to describe the picture quality on this tv in one word it would be "amazing". Screen uniformity is perfect, no light or dark places anywhere. Colors appear natural and realistic to me. The black levels are very deep on this tv when you dim the lights a bit or close the shades in the room. Motion appears fine to me (I found the motion looked better with the blur reduction in settings turned off).

The default setting for this tv is to have C.A.T.S. turned on in the settings. This adjusts the brightness of the picture depending on how much ambient light is in the room. Some people may like this feature but I turned it off.

The sound is good for normal tv viewing. It sounded better to me when I turned on bass boost in the sound settings; It is possible to adjust the treble and bass also.

One issue that this tv has (as well as Plasma's in general from what I've read) that LCD's don't is that the black levels don't look their best in a brightly lit room. This is not a problem for me as I prefer watching in a dim, but not pitch black, environment. To my eyes the black levels look deeper than I've ever seen on an LCD.

I have not tried the network feature on this tv yet. An earlier reviewer said some of the network features may not be available yet. It won't really matter to me if this is still the case. I just want a flatscreen that does what it is supposed to do, and does it very well; This plasma delivers that.

This is a polished product from Panasonic. Please Panasonic, don't ever stop making Plasma's!

****Quick update**** 4/26. When I said that the TV automatically switched the source to receive video from the bluray player, It may have done this because the bluray player that I borrowed also happened to be a Panasonic product. As to whether or not it will automatically switch the source for another brand of bluray player, you'll have to find that out for yourself.Buy Panasonic VIERA TC P42G25 Lowest Price, Order Now! Panasonic VIERA TC-P42G25 42-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV

Although I have been working in the AV industry for many years I have been holding back - seen a lot of feature hype and hoopla go by but this is the first flat screen plasma I liked with a price that was reasonable.
For a couple of years now I have been looking for an HDTV with wide viewing angels - worked well in dark or well lit room without too much reflection - rich accurate color reproduction - Works well with games or sports motion - works well with over the air/cable SD signals or SD DVD play back - ease of use - easy break in - Minimal chance of image retention - Multiple input/outputs - reasonable price.
We have had our 42G25 now for several weeks and have been very pleased with our choice - did have to buy the component cables for our Wii which improved the picture quality fairly well for an SD video game. We also purchased a Panasonic Bluray player with the TV it works nicely with SD or Bluray playback - The TV's THX certified picture setting is very pleasing and color accurate for movies - I use the Custom setting for over the air and cable TV watching with a few minor adjustment tweaks I got excellent results. Both the TV and player have internet abilities - I have used utube so far works fine. Also I was easily able to updated the firmware for both TV and player. Bought a Mini DVI to HDMI adapter to use my 2 yr. old MacBook computer works fine @ 1920x1080p resolution streaming Hulu etc. There is an RGB port on the TV but only lower resolutions work - since RGB is limited anyway I would use the HDMI port if your computer is 1080p capable. The sound is a little on the tinny side for me but my wife doesn't seem to mind it personally I usually use the AV amplifier when watching TV or Movies. The TV remote is easy to use and lights up. The BR player remote is also easy use but does not light up not sure I get that - it makes it very awkward to use in the dark. So I just put everything on our Sony universal 2100 remote and the wife was happy controlling all sources with one touch screen remote that lights up.
One last thing - I'm keeping an eye on the alleged "rising black levels" but I have not notice anything yet. I'll repost if anything comes up. However I do recommend this TV to all it's a good value, sharp accurate picture and a great product.

Cheap Samsung PN42C450 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV

Cheap Samsung PN42C450 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV (Black)

Pros:
- Good black levels for price. Much better than comparable LCD.
- Very light.
- Low heat output.
- Vibrant colors.
- Very attractive glossy outside. Comes with cleaning cloth.

Cons:
- Color accuracy is dodgy.
- No RCA inputs.
- Internal speakers are tinny, but acceptable.

Overall:
A really good TV for a very cheap price. It's impressive to see the features that are so quickly trickling down to the lower end sets. Thus far, I'm very happy with the performance. The color accuracy is an issue. Certain shades of blue look positively purple. Tuning helps alleviate this to a degree, but never gets rid of it. The black levels are very good for the price. They easily outperform LCD's of similar prices, but aren't as good as other, more expensive plasmas.

If you can find a Panasonic Viera used on eBay from one or two seasons ago, you'll get better image quality for a similar price. Also, if you're willing to bump up your expenditure to one of Panasonic's entry-level Viera plasmas, you'll get better performance and 1080p. Low heat and power consumption on this model is very appealing, though, and might be a good reason to skip the extra money and go with this.

I have a lot of old gear kicking around, which means the lack of an RCA input was problematic. If everything you work with is either HDMI or Component, you're good. If not, you'll need a receiver or converter box.Buy Samsung Pn42c450 Lowest Price, Order Now! [Click Here!]

I spent close to an hour in the store comparing LCD TVs. This LG stood out with its sharp and bright colors. I used the store's Internet connection to check out the reviews but since it is a new model there wasn't many. The older model however was popular among gamers.

The speakers on this TV are hidden on the back and this gives it a neat look. The speakers also sound great. There are different sound options in the menu plus advanced picture controls. In "Intelligent Sensor" mode the TV adjust the brightness and color contrast according to the room lighting conditions. The picture quality is easy to setup using the picture wizard option.

This TV has three HDMI connections in the back to use with your laptop or desktop plus an RGB (VGA Cable). There is also a USB 2.0 port in the back. I connected a USB thumb drive and was able to listen to music and display my digital pictures on the screen.

Over all I am very pleased with quality of this LG model and recommend it to anyone who wants to buy a LCD TV for under $1k, and I mean not for picture quality but the size of the screen since this had as good, if not better, picture quality as other more expensive models in the store.Buy LG 42LD520 Lowest Price, Order Now! Samsung PN42B450 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV

This is my first HD TV. I ruled out LCD because I never saw one that didn't look blocky during fast motion scenes. LED hasn't impressed me enough to make up for the huge difference in price. It's hard to believe that plasma TV's are the least expensive of the 3. When I started researching I was surprised to find 42" was the smallest plasma size. 37-40" would have been plenty for our bedroom, but getting a 42" plasma for less than a 37" LCD is a no brainer.

I was originally leaning towards the Panasonic 42" until I downloaded the manual and found out it didn't have an analog audio out jack. Neither does the LG. The Samsung 430 & 450 however do have L/R RCA audio out jacks on the rear panel. Not having audio out was a deal breaker for me since this TV is for our bedroom and my wife insists I use headphones at night so she can sleep while I watch TV. Having just spent about $60 on a wireless headphone set I had to have audio outs on the new TV. Most sets today only have a digital audio out and a converter costs about $50.

Contrary to some online reviews and even the online manual, I've discovered "my" 450's audio output works even with the TV speakers set to ON. I can simply lower the volume and audio is always available through the rear RCA L/R output. Since my headphone has its own volume, I have zero issues. Even after I updated the firmware the feature still works. I could not get by without the external audio.

So far I only have a few minor issues. The Anynet link between my Samsung Blu-ray player only worked for a few minutes now I have to use both remotes. I haven't figured out what I could have changed to disrupt the operation but even when it worked I was disappointed to find the TV remote doesn't have the "Next Track" function. There aren't a whole lot of things you need to change once your DVD player is setup but you need more than PLAY, STOP, FF, REV buttons. I have a lot of TV show DVDs that I like to skip past the opening and closing titles. Now I'm forced to use FF or grab the other remote. And speaking of remotes, the TV remote is unecessarily HUGE! The Samsung DVD remote is the exact same shape/layout but smaller. Again, it's only missing a couple important buttons to work the entire TV/DVD set but Samsung forces us to keep both remotes handy. There is NO way my wife is going to remember which is which. Add to that our FIOS remote won't operate the Blu-ray player at all, and it only works the TV power, volume and channel buttons. So we're stuck with 3 remotes.

All that said, the picture is fantastic. It's "smoother" than the Panasonic with the default settings. You can crank up the detail and colors etc if you want but I actually turned the color down to about 45 and nudged the flesh tones up a little (they seemed a little too yellow to me out of the box). Other than the remote issues, I think this was a very good purchase. The store even threw in a simple wall mount for free which easily offset the tax amount. Do NOT spend a fortune on wall mounts, Amazon has some great low priced mounts. Luckily I didn't need anything special, no swivels and no tilting that a few washers couldn't fix. Just remember to drill pilot holes so you don't crack a stud with the large wood screws.Buy Samsung Pn42b450 Lowest Price, Order Now! [Click Here!]

Buying an 30" Apple Monitor screen would have set me back $1799. I started to do some research and I was surprised to find price of comparable LED screens to be significantly less.

I bought this at a local retailer as an open box item for $950. The additional features of Internet and WiFi ready, D-TV scanning and audio options just makes this a no brainer even at full retail price.

Great quality, amazing picture, and thinking you can't get a good TV for $540 is a lie - this TV proves it!Buy Samsung Pn42c450 Lowest Price, Order Now! [Click Here!]

I recently purchased this tv from adorama camera through amazon, and let me say while i was VERY nervous about buying something so large and expensive online, i am happy to report this transaction was better than any i have ever had in a store. The first obvious hang up was not being able to see this tv's picture in person, but honestly i dont believe the major retail stores accurately display these tv's anyway due to differences in feed (standard dvd through blu ray) When i first opened the box (delivered 6 days after my purchase) i found the tv in immaculate shape, no damage to the box or any of the components inside. The tv was very easy to set up, i replaced a 32 inch sony bravia lcd in my bedroom with this model, and its an absolutely incredible upgrade in every way, and i loved my bravia. I have this tv hooked up to an hd dish network receiver, and a ps3. Games and blu ray movies are unbelieveable, i also have a 46" samsung lcd in my basement and thought that that tv had the best picture quality i have ever seen untill watching this one. The colors are incredible in this model, the clarity is astonishing, and you have the ability to manipulate the settings to your liking. I must warn you that when you first plug this tv in, you will get a sinking feeling in your gut like you made a mistake. This tv absolutely needs to be calibrated!! I know very little about programming tv's, blu ray players etc, so i went to CNET and used their recommended picture settings with some minor alterations. I tend to like a brighter picture, so i use the vivid setting with some tweaks. For some reason, the 240 hz feature to me makes the picture appear worse so i turn that off, as most reviews state to do. But this tv when calibrated to your liking cannot be beat. I debated between this tv, and the samsung un40b8000. I absolutely love my 46" samsung, and the company name obviously speaks for itself. But with that stated, this tv is cheaper and fully led backlit while the samsung is side lit. My only problem with the lg is the cabinet size, it really is massive for a 42" set. But if i had to make the decision again, id purchase the LG in a heartbeat. You will love this tvBuy LG 42LH90 Lowest Price, Order Now! [Click Here!]

LG 42LH90 42-Inch 1080p 240Hz LED Backlit LCD HDTV, Glossy Black/Infused Blue

I have been looking around for a 1080p TV for a long time to upgrade my room and I finally came to buy this TV and I would never look back. I wanted a TV good for gaming, has great picture clarity, and of course good HD playback whether it be Blu-Ray or HD channels on cable. This TV has lived up to all of my expectations that I had for it except for one problem. The 240Hz "TruMotion" even when on low has some distorting effect on moving background images. Usually nothing that takes a lot away from the overall picture and nothing that lasts more than a couple seconds but I always seem to find those things. I am convinced it is the 240Hz considering I have watched the same movies on 120Hz 1080p LED TV and there was only very slight distortions. When playing a Blu-Ray on 1080p, it is less noticeable than if you where watching HBO HD or some other Cable TV HD channel.

Picture clarity and brightness are phenomenal! We have the Samsung 55" LED set downstairs and when I compared it almost looked like this LG was brighter and was more clear when playing a Blu-Ray disc, or playing a PS3 game. Sound quality is very good of built in speakers. Usually I can't let it go over 40 otherwise it is too loud when comparing it to the Samsung, sometimes we need to put the volume all the way up to 85-90.

Overall I am very happy with this TV for the price that I paid for it, I just bought a new Blu Ray player to replace my Samsung P1500, I will be hooking up a Panasonic DMP-DB85K later this week to see if it will make any difference in Blu-Ray clarity. So far the best movie that I have watched on this TV picture-wise is District 9... watched that yesterday and WOW it was an amazingly clear, crisp and bright picture.

If you are looking for a closer to budget priced 1080p LED TV this would be the TV you should consider.Buy LG 42LH90 Lowest Price, Order Now! [Click Here!]

Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?

HDTV Size chart With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience. If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.
  • Minimum size = Viewing distance/3
  • Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

I went through many days of researching consumer reports and other websites before picking this TV. I understand where some people have their issues with interface and the sound but I have a small condo (900 sq ft) in San Diego. Hooking it up to my over the air antenna I get 30 stations (digital ones are so clear they blow cable away!). The sound is perfectly fine for my room at 20 (*the tv goes up to 75...so it will be more than loud enough for a regular room). The picture quality is stunning.

The only downside I would warn someone is that I also have a bluray player and if you watch a great movie with lots of CGI special effects you will now be able to tell without any effort that it's CGI (computer generated images). Watching GI Joe was great fun but the special effects jumped out at you so much it was obvious. If you watch something like WallE you won't have that problem.

I don't think I can waste money going to a movie theater now since my at home experience will be so much superior thanks to this amazing TV. If you use the Amazon on demand of Netflix (coming soon they say) you'll need a 10mps download speed. I turned off the glowing SONY logo, which looks great as long as you're not watching a movie, without a problem (three clicks) and use the TV Guide service (free) and love it! I was considering the 120hz one and and so glad I spent the extra on the 240hz - you will too!Buy Kdl 40xbr9 Lowest Price, Order Now! [Click Here!]

Shop For Toshiba REGZA 42ZV650U 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV With ClearScan 240, Black

The Good: I bought this TV set after much research and viewing every set I could online and at the stores. This set beat out Samsung and Sony models in its class, and was hundreds less. This set has great audio speakers that adjust to loud volumes such as commercials. Black levels are great. Colors pop. Skin tones are spot on. This set is more "tweakable" than others. You can elect to have antiblurring without dejudder. I looked side by side at several stores to compare this model and it is superior to Sony and Samsung pq. Bigger is better. I don't have room for a 46 inch and this 42 inch beats out the 40 inch sets.

The Bad: I was unlucky and my set had two dead pixels right out of the box. After two months, I got a second set, exact same model. The second set had audio lip syncing problems on one channel and buzzing sounds once a day. The dead pixel set had no audio problems. I ended up keeping the dead pixel set. The fine print under the Toshiba warranty says if you get one dead pixel or 100 dead pixels, it is not covered under the warranty. I can't see my dead pixels unless there is a white background and I look for them. This set is perfect in many ways, except not pixel perfect.

It was a bad experience to start out with, to have two sets, the same model with problems.Buy Toshiba REGZA 42ZV650U 42 Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Lowest Price, Order Now! [Click Here!]

First, I have had this product for a short time and have used it only a few hours, so will not be able to give it what I would call an honest review. That will be in a year or more. So far It has been as advertised having a great picture and good sound. I like the fact that the volume stays about the same when commercials come on. This set is used via air antenna. I have not yet learned how to delete channels I am not interested in so that the set does not try to lock onto them when scanning. I have much to learn. I am loving this TV. Great picture quality. You don't have to adjust color unless you want to but if you do there are many adjustments you can choose from. The only problem I have is that it doesn't fill out the entire screen unless you go in and zoom it but then it cuts out some of the picture. I have it set on adjust according to the program but only some shows fill out the screen. Not a big deal because it fills out most of it except the sides and I have gotten used to it and don't really notice it now.Buy LG 42LH30 Lowest Price, Order Now! [Click Here!]

Have been searching for a nice 42" LCD 1080 and ran across this one. Compared to the competition LG seems to more than hold it's own, plus the price point is excellent. Other reviews share the good points so I won't go into them only to mention that I found this to be the best 'bang for the buck' in 1080 LCD 42" TV. While LG is not yet considered a major brand in America, I purchased many LG products when I lived in Thailand in 2005.

I found them to be excellent products then and still do now. Overseas LG sells all sorts of products. One could almost say it's the GE of Asia - except LG TV's are superior to any GE product - by a huge margin.

I also have a 50" Panasonic Plasma that I purchased a couple years ago when that model was rated #1 by Consumer Reports. This LG has a superior picture and is perfect for what I need it for.

If you buy one - you'll be happy. Buy LG 42LH30 Lowest Price, Order Now! [Click Here!]

So far TV is really good, with nice picture quality and surround sound feature is effectively good. Don't need to change volume now between show and commercials, which is really good as you can hear the dialogs really well. Picture quality is good but not very sharp colors. Well I haven't played much with color adjustments though, that's why I didn't give it 5 on picture quality. I spent a lot of time researching TVs, but apparently, not enough:) Overall, I like this TV. The picture is great. However, the screen reflects way too much light. When the TV is off, or in dark scenes, it looks like a mirror. We got this set because it's supposed to have a good viewing angle, which was a concern I had. It does have a good picture from a wide angle, although I believe many others do as well. There is so much glare, you'd think it was a plasma. Also, for some reason, many of the TVs I looked at including this one have a very high gloss frame. This also reflects a lot of light. I have no idea why they wouldn't use a flat black for the frame. It's really annoying that it reflects any light in the room. I don't use the TVs speakers, so no comment there. So bottom line, is that it's a nice picture, but there is a real glare problem if you have any light at all. My advice when you're looking at them in the store, is to turn the TV off, and see how much glare there is.Buy Toshiba REGZA 42ZV650U 42 Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Lowest Price, Order Now! [Click Here!]

Shop For Panasonic VIERA X1 Series TC-P42X1 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV

I bought this TV a few weeks ago and am still getting accustomed to its features and quirks. It is a second large screen TV in my home, placed in the bedroom. Granted, it is large for a bedroom, but our viewing distance to the TV warrants a larger image. This TV came home with me because of the combination of reviews here and on Consumer Reports, and the price point. Despite these good things going for it, rather than elation at my purchase, my experience thus far has been somewhat on the disappointing side.

My setup is very basic: standard def cable TV and DVD player. At first the cable TV hookup was via coax cable. The picture was nothing to write home about, less sharp than on my old 27 inch conventional TV. The first program I watched was "The Wizard of Oz" on TBS. The image was extremely dark, annoyingly so. Colors were very good, but I could not get around the degree of darkness in the dark scenes. Attempts to improve the brightness/ lower the black level were met with frustration; I couldn't.

Reading info online subsequently pointed out you can only access the black level when "external devices" are plugged in. That means bump the connections up to S-video or component. (I would of course go to HDMI if I could, but my current cable box does not support it). Once I connected the cable via S-video, I was able to adjust and reduce the black level. That helped, but it is important to note the limited adjustment of black levels on this set: is either dark or light. That's it; there are no gradations, nothing in between. That level of flexibility is inadequate. Compared to the flexibility of settings on my 46" Samsung LCD, this unit falls far short in that area.

Sound on the unit is fine. I had no expectations that the TV's audio would compare to that from even modest external speakers or home theatre setup. If I need oomph I need only move to my living room where a decent home theatre setup awaits. To its credit, there is the capability to ratchet the volume range a few notches beyond normal. This is valuable with my cable setup, as there are programs or times of day when the sound inexplicably drops and I have to crank it close to the max to hear it.

I watched a standard DVD on an older DVD player hooked to the TV via component cable. The image was fine, no complaints. After rearranging DVD players to hook a newer, up-converting player to the plasma via HDMI cable, the picture it produced was as good as I could have hoped for: clear, sharp, good color rendition and good black levels. Without a 1080P set side by side, I did not feel the 720p video capability on this set was a compromise. Higher end sources (digital cable, Blu-ray) might make a difference, but without a 1080p set right next to it in my home, I can't compare, and so I don't feel as though I have lost anything at 720p. That said, I do feel the image is much richer and more alive on my LCD. Despite favoring the LCD image, I went for this plasma due to the combination of reviews, larger screen size and lower price when compared to a 40 inch LCD. It was a stretch to convince my wife we "needed" this set; explaining an additional $250 expenditure given how little we watch TV in the bedroom would have been my undoing.

The specs for this set show it to have an anti-reflective screen filter. I find this helpful. However, the glossy black bezel surrounding the screen is highly reflective, so whatever reflections are not caught on the screen are bounced back from the bezel; disconcertingly so. The stand is also gloss black, and any specks of dust that land on it show very clearly.

Overall, and so far, the set meets my minimum criteria. It is a lower-end unit in Panasonic's line, provides very good standard picture and sound, but there are important adjustment capabilities missing. While my situation did not warrant it, if this is going to be your main TV, spring for the extra $250 or so and buy the next level 1080P plasma or LCD set. The cost difference to bump up in quality and features will long have been forgotten in a few months' time, you will future-proof your TV-viewing for a few years, and you will have a better set.

Cheap Panasonic VIERA X1 Series TC-P42X1 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV

Yes. 720P is enough. 42 inch is also enough for me (less than 3 meter distance).
CONS: But the channel scan is not perfect. 1st, each time you scan auto, the previous result is remove all. Because now is digital TV broadcast, so you may not scan all channel at one time due to antenna direction(if you haven't cable service). That's a problem for me. Sometimes I could found channel 4 and 11, but now I couldn't while almost 44 channel are scan out.
Shipping is not so good. Pilot customer service seem to lie to me. They didn't call me by shipping date. I called the customer service and she said they already called me but no answer. But my wife stayed in home all day, and there is answer system with my home phone. I really doubt they always play this tricky. Also the guys take the TV into my living room and mount the TV. But they left the package box. Buy Panasonic VIERA X1 Series TC P42X1 42 Inch 720p Plasma HDTV Lowest Price, Order Now! [Click Here!]

Low Price LG 42LH30 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV, Gloss Black

Low Price LG 42LH30 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV, Gloss Black

The TV is good at the price point I paid - $629+tax (Sears). LG is a respected brand in Asia and a 42" LCD 1080p at that price is a good deal. The picture when viewing true HD signals, just comes to life and is breath-taking. Fairly basic connectivity with 1 composite, 2 AV, 1PC and 3 HDMI ports. Would have been nice to have one more composite and HDMI ports and looks like the newer models have them. The speakers are well hidden and makes for a smooth clean finish on the outside. There are also numerous (more than you ever want) amount of controls to fine-tune the picture. Fairly easy hack available to turn on USB port to view pictures or play movies - great bonus.

That said, the sound quality seems a bit sub-par compared to other TVs in the market. I also noticed some light leakage on the far corners of the TV - other than for Sony or Samsung this seems a problem for all other big TVs. Also, for those of you watching TV with over the air signals, please note that this TV does not pick up the OTA Electronic Program Guide (EPG), which was a big surprise to me, since those dirt cheap TVs you buy at Walmart or during BF sales too have them. Big goof-up at LG design, I should say. Lastly do not expect a Samsung or Sony style processing of low-fidelity signals (SD, ED). Standard-Def signals look rather grainy and poor - I guess the processing chip is where LG cheaped out. Invest in a good quality up-converting player for your DVDs and change the channel if you run-into non-HD programming as a work-around.

Lastly the customer service is no-worser than that of Samsung or Sony. A bunch of air-heads, quite a bit of wait-time and frustrating responses. But do not discount the TV for that - like I said - this is how all TV manufacturers support their TVs (I have a Sony and Samsung), so no big deal. Wish the industry was overall better, thatz all.

Overall, a reasonable purchase if you dont pay too much. I am sure you will learn to like your purchase - if you are considering it, go on pull the trigger.Buy LG 42LH30 42 Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Gloss Black Lowest Price, Order Now! [Click Here!]

Buying Panasonic VIERA S1 Series TC-P42S1 42-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV

Positive-
This TV is the first big purchase I have made in many years. I am very happy with the TV, the colors look amazing, the controls are easy, and it's easy to set up. Does everything I wanted it to do, with a good name brand to back it. One of my favorite features of the TV is that there are volume controls, channel controls, Menu, and Input all on the side of the TV. That means when you loose your remote, and all you want to do is play some playstation with your friends, instead of wasting your life looking for it you can just walk up to the tv and hit the input button. This was glorious to me because I loose my remote allot and all of the previous TV's I have had you need a remote to use the input button.

Negative-
Sometimes things look a little green when the TV tries to go in cinema mode. I think its supposed to make things look darker or something. I dont know I dont like it, I usually turn the colors on cool and turn the contrast up so I dont even notice it. If your going to be watching some hockey on this baby, put the color temperature on Cool, the ice looks way way better.
